GOD STRETCHES OUT THE HEAVENS

G'day L.......

Orion nebula
So you want to know another random fact...about God this time.
Okay, take stars - last I heard, astronomers have found 76 x (10 to the power 21) stars...and counting, that's 76,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 - more than all the grains of sand on Earth!
So what. Psalm 147 says: "He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name....His understanding is infinite."
When the Bible first mentions stars on Day 4 of Creation it just uses 5 words: "He made the stars also." Just like that.
Hang on....light travels at 300,000 km per sec and would take 100,000 years to cross our galaxy...
Ah! but we forget God tells us in the Bible that He "stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in."...and we get told that about 10 times. There must have been a lot of stretching happening on Day 4, hey!
By the way, Edwin P. Hubble (Hubble telescope) proved in the 1920's that the universe is expanding uniformly.
So there's a random fact for you to remember when you put up your tent next time you go camping - under the stars!

Hi there H........
Q "If Adam and Eve were alive before 'The Evolution', how is it that we evolved from them and not from apes?"
First up, let me remind you that my job is to teach you what the Bible says - no more, no less. That means that I can only ask you questions in turn...
- What 'Evolution'? Are you sure it really happened or is it still just a theory?

- Where are all the 'transition' fossils?

- Are dead animals lying around today, waiting to be turned into fossils?
Wauchope fossils

- Are rocks used to date fossils and fossils used to date rocks?

- How did all the coal, oil and gas get into the ground?

- Are you a unique miracle or just an accident of nature?

Check everything my dear - check out the Bible, check out what people claim - is it the truth? Think about it. Does it make sense?

Hi J......
Q "If Adam and Eve were the first people on Earth, where did the cavemen come from?"
First of all, don't forget there are still people today living in primitive conditions in jungles or bush country.
The original Mr. Neanderthal
The Great Flood took place 1656 years after Adam and Eve were created and about 200 years later God scattered people from Babel into the nations of the world when there was probably the Ice Age from the global upheaval of the flood.

If your family found themselves in strange country, in freezing conditions, with wild animals around, where would you make your temporary home? In a cave near food and water of course!
The Neanderthal Man has been found to have been not so primitive after all.
In fact their home was not too different to our bush camping today.

Hi J..........
Q1 "Why is the earth so big?"
Everything in the universe is relative - compared to our galaxy, Earth is just a speck and compared to the millions of galaxies we are virtually off the map!
An ant would see you and I as gigantic but even an ant is gigantic compared to the scale of minute quantum physics.
I understand human beings are more or less middle size in the complexity of the universe and this Earth is getting a bit small for 7 billion people who can't live peacefully together.
What an awesome Creator we have, hey!
Twins!!
Q2 "If we are all related, why doesn't it seem so?"
Well, you can be sure Noah's family didn't all look the same.
We have incredible perception in familiar face recognition so that we can pick the difference between identical twins or even spot our neighbour in a crowd overseas but we have trouble working out which country Asians have come from. There is a huge genetic variety among all people seen in very minor differences e.g. the amount of melanin skin pigment, the amount of fat in the eyelids, straight or curly hair, length of nose, colour of eyes, shape of lips.......

Hi K.......
Q1. "How did God create the Earth?"
The Bible tells us: "Because of our faith, we know that the world was made at God's command. We also know that what can be seen was made out of what can't be seen." Wow! Isn't God so awesome to have just spoken the Earth into existence - from nothing! Even Science has proved that the universe must have had a supernatural beginning.
Q2 . "What made God have the thought to create the Earth/world?"
Actually I'm not God so I don't know what He was thinking. What I do know is that He made us in His image i.e. we are meant to be like Him, which means that He is creative like us and He enjoys company just like we do. For me it means getting a hammer in my hand and building a house then filling it with my wife and kids and friends.
What do you know?...the last book of the Bible, the Revelation, tells us that in the end, God produces a magnificent heavenly city for us to live with Him in. I hope I will see you there!

Hi M..........
Q. "When was Jesus born?"
Ah!...this is one that people love to argue about - many say it was the first Christmas day, 25th December.
The only problem is that the Bible says: "Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flocks by night." Bethlehem is very cold in the winter - it can snow there - so the shepherds would not have been camping out with their sheep in December.
I don't want to start World War III so I'd better leave you to decide for yourself. By the way, the Romans celebrated 'Saturnalia' at the end of December with a lot of drunken orgies.
If you meant "which year?" nobody really knows for sure but I suspect it was probably 1 or 2 BC. It just shows how obscure the wonderful coming of the Son of God was.

Hi M.........
Q. "Why do you have to say 'amen' at the end of a prayer?"
Well actually you don't have to, but it shows that you agree with what has been prayed.
Where did 'amen' come from?
Amen is a Hebrew word and it means: 'sure' or 'so let it be'.

Hi N.......
Q. "Why can God see us but we can't see Him?"
Do you remember the woman who met Jesus at the well? He told her that 'God is a spirit'...but who was it really who was talking to her?
Jesus had a friend called John who tells us in the Bible: "No-one has seen God at any time."...but he went on to say: "If we love one another, God abides in us..."
When you meet a true Christian who has been given God's Holy Spirit it should be like seeing God, just like that woman saw Jesus all those years ago.
Here's another verse: "He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being." Yep!...that close.
